For
most of my riding life I have not been a fan of neck braces
and the reasoning was simple...
I had not been given the correct brace for me and been
educated on the how, what and why of neck protection.
I am now a changed rider. The GPX
Club III goes with me on every
ride. even If I don't use the Leatt Pro Jacket, I still
wear the Neck Brace over my other jackets.

Waterproofing
& Breathability: I personally believe that these two aspects
of any biking jacket are the most important for the
riders comfort. Padding and protection are a separate
issue, but just as important.
So after a visit to the Leatt-Lab in Contermanskloof
for a professional and perfect fitting - I set off into
the heat of the Cederberg to test the Leatt-Pro
Jacket (Grey) loaded with the GPX
Club III neck-brace.
There are so many aspects to why the integrated jacket
works so well, and I'll start by saying that it is definitely
THE most comfortable and ventilated Jacket
I have ever worn.
Ventilation Test:
With the waterproof lining removed the jacket is fantastically
cool, the vents are large and easy to open on the fly,
whilst you're riding. For really hot conditions like
Namibia in December (50 degrees) you can remove the
sleeves as well. The inner waterproof lining has really
great breathability, provided you keep all the vents
open. in warm to hot weather, you must remove it.
The vents in the sleeves run from the wrist up to the
biceps, but not too easy to use whilst riding because
of the velcro adjustment straps in the way.
Leatt decided NOT to build in a warm thermal layer -
because its far better to wear a thin polar fleece that
you can keep on as causal wear once the jacket is removed.
Clever actually.
Wet Weather Test:
On the return leg from Cederberg - we hit a massive
cold front and the true value of a waterproof jacket
was well appreciated.
When I say, I was riding in the rain, I don't mean alight
drizzle. It was PISSING !!!
The Leatt-Pro Jacket kept
me 100% dry and warm - and the breathable zip up collar
covering the neck brace kept all the water out and prevented
that annoying water run-off from your helmet getting
down the back of my neck.
The main zipper up the front of the Leatt-Pro
Jacket is totally sealed, so wind blasted
water cant seep its way into the jacket.
There is no better feeling riding in the wet, but staying
100% warm and dry inside your protective shell. I was
wearing my Yamaha
Adventure Touring suit pants with the rain
lining in as well.
If you are new to the sport and do not have a neck brace
of jacket yet. this is an amazing combo and you wont
be sorry. The design and technology has been bought
by a few other jacket manufactures like KLIM. So start
with the Leatt-Neckbrace right for you and source a
compatible jacket like the GPX and Enduro range. Available
from most motorcycle stores across South Africa.
