The
Karoo
is an adventure riding heaven both summer and winter if
you can handle the chill. The route is accessible from
many location and travels through 15 Mountain
Passes.
Mainly starting in Laingsburg, but can be started in Prince
Albert or Calitzdorp. It ventures off from Laingsburg
through Moodenaarskaroo up to Sutherland and into the
Tankwa Karoo, up Ganga Pass (beware of punctures) to Middlepos
and on to Calvinia for the overnight stop.
From Calvinia it heads South again down the R357 back
to Sutherland into the Klein Roggeveld and over the amazing
Rammelkop Pass and down to Prince Albert to Karoo Lodge
for the second night. Next morning its through Swartberg
Pass and into Die Hel to the view point and out again.
Head down to Calitzdorp and back to laingsburg.
A true adventure route with only a short section of tar
from Prince Albert Road to Prince Albert.
Intermediate and expert riders will be most at
home. Beginners should be in a group of experienced
riders.
