The Montagu Mountain Meander is a
two day 577km Adventure ride through the Overberg mountains to Montagu.

Full Route:
Peregrine Farm Stall Grabouw - Highlands Trail- Botriver - Van der Stels Pass - Genadendal - Greyton - Riversonderend - Stormsvlei - McGregor - Robertson - Ashton - Montagu - Touws River - Bokrivier - Hottentotskloof Gydo Pass - Prince Alfred Hamlet - Ceres - Bain's kloof Pass - Wellington - Paarl - Franschhoek - Theewaterskloof - Van der Stels Pass - Peregrine Farm Stall
Route Description:
Grade: Green (Easy, Intermediate, also pillions riders, all size bikes)

Situated on the N2 over Sir Lowr'ys Pass is the ever popular Peregrine Farm Stall, aprox 200m is the turning to Vilipends right.
Exactly 5 km along this road is a turning left onto Highlands Road - following this road becomes gravel and climbs up over the Highlands trail through the forestry plantation and back down onto the R44 just before the Arabelle Estate. Turn left and continue to Botriver.

Once in Botriver - continue through town onto the gravel exit right to Van der Stels Pass. Continue for 10.5km till the T-Junction - then turn right towards Caledon. After 5.9km you will meet with the R43 again. Turn left onto the R43.
Travel 4.3km then turn right onto the Boointjieskraal Gravel road. Travel 6.4km then turn left onto gravel again. (if you go 300m further you will meet with the N2)
This 7.5km short cut avoids the N2 and brings you onto the Middleplaas Gravel road.

Turn left again onto Middleplaas and travel 26km to Genadendal and meet up with the R406 through Greyton. The R406 is gravel for 34.4km to Riviersonderend and the N2.

From the Total Garage at the end of Riviersonderend town travel 7.6km on the N2 - then turn left onto gravel road and proceed for 14.8km through the farmlands until meeting with the R317 (Tar) T-Junction. Turn left towards Mcgregor. Travel for 5.3km on the tar R371 then turn Left onto Gravel towards McGregor. Travel 3.3km on gravel then turn left again. Travel 5.9km then turn left again.

This gravel road will take you passed McGregor and into Robertson after 40.3km onto the R60.
Turn right in Robertson and proceed 26.8km into Montagu and take the second left - Barry Street. Turn left again and follow the signs to the Montagu Caravan Park.
De Bos Guest Farm is opposite the Caravan Park.

The route for day two is predominately tar from Touwsriver.
Exit Montagu on the R62 and turn left after 1.1km in the direction of Touwsriver and Ladismith. Travel 1.6km then take a left onto Gravel road. The gravel continues through Ouberg Pass and Langkloof Pass for 28.7km. Turn left towards Touwsriver ad travel 57.8km and turn left over the railway line and into Touwsriver town.
Turn Right at Jane Street and proceed to the N1
Travel on the N1 for 8.1km then turn right onto the R46 towards Ceres. Travel 31.5km on the R46 until the T-Junction at the R355. Turn right towards Sutherland - roads becomes Gravel after a few hundred meters (Beware of the rough road surface, very conducive to punctures).

Travel 10.9km on the R355 gravel. Turn left onto gravel and proceed for 12.9km and then bare right at the fork. After the right fork travel a further 16.6km to T-Junction.
Turn Right towards Prince Alfred Hamlet and Ceres and travel for 15.4km until meeting with the R303 (Tar).

Turn left and travel 15km down through Gydo Pass and into Prince Alfred Hamlet. 9.5km further is the town of Ceres. Turn right onto Voortrekker and travel 9.3km down Mitchell's Pass and turn left at the T-Junction towards Worcester and Wellington via Bainskloof Pass.
Continue through Bainskloof Pass for 44.7km and into Wellington main Church Street. Turn left at the BIG church T-Junction and continue along the R301 Jan Van Riebeek Road out of town. Travel 29.7 km through Paarl and under the N1 to the T-Junction on the R45 at Wemmershoek. Turn Right towards Franschhoek and travel 8.5km through Franschhoek. Turn left at the T-Junction and proceed 24.7 km over Franschhoek Pass down to the R321 T-Junction at Theewaterskloof Dam.

Turn Right across the bridge over the dam and after 700m turn left onto Gravel towards Botriver and Caledon. After 2.6km bear right at the fork onto Van der Stels Pass and continue towards Botriver. At the T-Junction turn left and travel for 12km and turn right at the fork towards Botriver again and travel a further 10.6km until arriving at the Tar T-Junction in Botriver. Turn right and follow the road until meeting with the N2. Turn right and travel up over the Houhoek Pass and for another 19.6km and you will arrive back at Peregrine Farm Stall.

A very easy and most enjoyable dual sport route, Suitable for All level of Riders, Pillions, and All Size Dual Sport Bikes. Day one is predominately Gravel and day Two is predominately Tar.
